Hello Kitty Cutting Scarification
It’s already been well established that Hello Kitty fanatics are, to put it diplomatically, fanatical. In being so, they go far beyond what most of us normal people would consider, for lack of a better word, sane. Usually this merely means buying lots of useless Hello Kitty crap, but apparently some are willing to go to painful lengths for the evil feline:
Of course, I have fallen once again into the classic Hello Kitty Hell trap of believing that it couldn’t get any worse than the Hello Kitty tattoos for body modification. I never learn…it always gets worse. Apparently true Hello Kitty devotion means splitting you skin open to permanently scar Hello Kitty’s image into your skin. Again, I hope this person really wanted Hello Mimmy (Hello Kitty’s sister) and not Hello Kitty on her arm (it still bothers me that I know the difference) because it doesn’t look like those scars will be coming off once the cuts have healed…
Sent in by Morgan (via modblog) who should have to suffer the same treatment for thinking it was – in any way, shape or form – a good idea to bring this to my attention.

I love the whole cutting thing. My boyfriend and I plan to get matching scars done. I love the look of scars, but not tatoos, the coloring looks strange to me, but hello kitty just ruins it all. Come on, you could pick something better than a cat to scar on your flesh.
Of all the scars you could put on your body, why hk? She’s so meaningless, well at least to me, it’s good to believe in something, and if it’s an imaginary cat why not scar what means the most to you on your flesh.
I still don’t think hk should be that sacred to anyone, but if it’s all ya got then it’s better to believe in that than nothing.

I’m just a twisted person. Ovoiously whoever got this mutilation done is strange too. Like us said earlier I REALY like the look of scars and in my warped mind it’s worth a little pain, well probbly a lot of pain.
You are so totally biased. The problem isn’t Hello Kitty, but that you present a totally one-sided view of her. You only post the extreme things so that everyone that doesn’t know better thinks that this is only the Hello Kitty out there. Why don’t you show all the cute plush and pens and key chains that are out there. By giving only extreme examples, you warp everything just to make yourself look good and try to influence people that don’t know a lot about Hello Kitty. It’s disgusting that you do this instead of being fair like you should be.
You may think you’re all high and mighty because of your distortions, but everyone can see through what you’re trying to do. I challenge you to be a decent person and represent Hello Kitty exactly like everyone who loves her wants you to represent her. If you can’t be fair, then you should stop blogging because it has no meaning.
I know you will refuse my challenge because you are a mean and unsympathetic man who is only looking to become popular off of the popularity of Hello Kitty. But by refusing, you show that I’m right and everyone will know the truth.

I’ve already challenged you, some 2 months back, to supply independant examples of the positive side of HK you claim exists, and you haven’t.

If one is going to gouge huge scars into ones’ person, I’d prefer that it be for some reason of deep cultural significance. There are tribes in Africa, I understand, that use ritual scarring to demonstrate the strength of their bonds to other members of their community. That is OK. If anyone is trying to establish that depth of connection with Hello Kitty, it ain’t going to happen. She’s a hollow shell, a consumer product cooked up some time in the 1970s. There is no depth there with which to connect.

I’ve seen photos of a girl that had a scarification done on her back to look like bamboos and I know another girl that made scarification stars on her back… I admit that they look both good and strange…
Good because the result has a a kind of beauty and it is kind of appealing and strange because they’re scars and it must have been really painful…
I would never do something like that though I respect who does bt only those that do it with meaning… not a Hello Kitty!
The bamboos were a full back scarification and the stars were on the lower back… dreadfully painfull… no way!

haha. when i had surgery a few months ago [an appendectomy], I wanted a really sweet intense scar. I jokingly asked my surgeon to make it look like hellokitty and he just busted out laughing. ha. needless to say, i got stuck with three little lame lines.

The work my boyfriend and I are going to get done is, an heartfealt, symbol of love. The way we see it, a mariage can be undone, and Scarification is more meaningful to us than mariage cuz it can’t be taken back and is a more dificult decision because it can never be undone. Even though few if any people understand so I don’t know why I bother trying to explain it.
I like it but not as scarification.(The kitty part I like) When I was a kid I used to cut myself (I guess it was my own form of scarification, on the backside of my hand, which I wanted to write out something but it hurt so much that I only did one letter.. but when it was all healed it looked like a cross x.X) Seeing this makes me cringe to think of how much blood she had to lose. I still have my scars to haunt me and be a remainder of how stupid I was when I was young. xD
i love scarification (i do not love this). scarification is beautiful in my eyes. i would much rather get a scar than a tattoo. in fact i’m planning to, right on my shoulderblade. :0)

I dont think it was intended for hello kitty lovers at all so i think you shouldn’t be complaining or telling the writer to change his opinion. Absinth – hopefully I’ll be getting it done in December but it’s not for sure. But I will post the results here for ya. I need my boyfriend here to do the scaring and I don’t get to see him very often, we live in different states. So I might be getting it done in early ’08.

i just found this site and i love it! i’ve personally had a long history with kitty-chan, going from unending love to… ended love. my husband is grateful that i outgrew that stage.
i was an employee of a sanrio store for quite a long time (as well as being one of it’s #1 patrons.) your entry about kitty fetishes reminded me of one of my favorite stories from my time there. shortly before i started there, there was a guy who worked there who’d borrow the kitty costume (complete w/ pink shoes, frilly pants, pink polka dot dress and gigantic kitty head) and use it for various exploits not endorsed by sanrio. he confessed to everything and then was fired, but i’m sure to him it was worth it.

This is disturbing. It makes a subject as serious as Self Injury/cutting seem cool or stylish to some. There are many who struggle with SI, and it is a situation that people don’t feel ok going public with or even obtaining help to cope with it. Seeing this may cause someone to believe that injuring themselves is not a problem, as long as you make it into something cute, instead of random slashes in a hidden spot.
This saddens me … how many teenage girls (and others) are going to see this and be even more confused.

The whole self mutilation thing is sick and disturbing. Anyone willing to slice themselves open and purposely scar themselves forever has some very serious psychological problems to cope with.
I had a date with a goth girl once. On her bedroom wall was a picture of Eva Braun. She was shocked I knew it was Hitler’s girlfriend.

I understand what your mean but thinking about cutting was my problem, I loved it, everything about it. It was a release that I needed. And after a while I’d crave it very intensely. It’s confusing cuz society says that it’s a psychological problem, and I should stop, but it’s something I love that I fealt I needed. After I had the right motivation from my boyfriend, I did manage to stop. But that dosen’t mean that I don’t like cutting anymore it’s just not a habit anymore I can control it, well I don’t have to control it cuz it’s not a problem anymore and I don’t NEED it like I did. It’s the viewpoint, or addiction, that needs to be changed not the action itself. I don’t see anything wrong with cutting, I still cut once in a great while but not because I need it I just like the look of scars especialy when it’s symbolic like the work my boyfriend and I see going to get done, I mentioned it earlier. it’s the addiction to it that a person needs help overcoming.
k, I meant that the sort of art scarification that started this entry needs careful thought, precisely because it’s even more difficult to undo ot cover up than tattooing is.
Personally, the whole idea makes me feel slightly ill, so if I’m at all typical, that probably explains the general view of society. I can see that what you’re saying makes sense from your viewpoint, so I’ll leave it by saying that an occasional blue in a collection of mostly yellows is ok, as long as the blue doesn’t hospitalise either themself or any of the yellows as a result.
