FreeMicroloan.com – My New Blog Inspired By You

While my wife and I continue to negotiate the details of the future of this blog (thanks for all the comments — they seem to be softening up her position a bit, especially on the point that the blog is degrading), I have a huge favor to ask all the readers of this blog. I have created a new blog (FreeMicroloan.com) for the New Year which was inspired by all the comments that the readers left on the summer challenge to get rid of 200 Hello Kitty items by giving them to a local orphanage in Japan (can I once again thank all of your for rescuing me from what would have definitely been a much too Hello Kitty Hellish vacation to survive sane).

The new blog doesn’t pack the same bite as this blog does (It’s actually a positive blog — I bet some of you didn’t even believe that I had a kinder and gentler side), but I think it’s something that can remind and encourage all of us to make the world a little better. If you have a few minutes, please take a look and see if it’s a blog that you might find worthwhile visiting on a regular basis.

If you do, please feel free to sign-up for the rss feed, leave a comment and, most of all, spread the word to others that you know who you think would support such an endeavor. The goal is to fund a minimum of $10,000 in microloans this year, as well as getting a lot of people into the habit of doing small things daily that don’t take a lot of effort that help make the world a better place.

Whatever your opinion, please feel free to leave your impressions and suggestions on how to make it better here. I’m hoping that with your help we can start the blog off with a bang and fund the first microloan ($25) this week which would be a total of 250 comments, 100 rss readers or a combination of the two.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming of me living in Hello Kitty Hell…

  1. One man’s hell is another man’s heaven, just like one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Just tell your wife because it is hell for you that it is great resource for other people. I can feel for you man.

  2. Can I just ask how are the loans being funded? There are no ads on the site which is normally how these things are funded…

Yes, it explains in the FAQs on the site, but it is being funded by a friend of mine who simply asked me to use the money to do good. There are some really great people in the world 🙂

  3. Aw we knew you had a great side. We knew it with the orphans and with you tolerating your wife’s fanaticsm regarding HK.

That should go on the way for sainthood of tolerance at least. 😛

  4. To be honest, it seems to be more mocking the idea of ‘kind and gentle’ with the new site. Still, at least you’re trying to make peace with your wife and Hello Kitty.

Like andophiroxia said, we knew that you had a nice side anyway.

  5. I absolutely love your new blog, especially since it’s 2-in-1: we get to help different causes on the websites you link to, and fund microloans for kiva.org by commenting and subscribing. You and your friend are awesome! May I suggest a website for you to link to on the new blog? Freerice.com is one of my favorite websites because unlike many other similar websites, it lets you answer an unlimited number of questions a day, and for every answer you get right, their sponsors donate 20 grains of rice to the UN World Food Program. You have to choose the correct meaning of a word, and the words get progressively harder. It really improves your vocabulary. They’ve recently added questions about math, art and a couple foreign languages, as well.

  6. It is nice of you to start such blog. But it doesn’t have a punch like your HKH blog has (like eating Sushi without Wasabi).
Human are born to be evil and twisted. I’m very sad that I felt that way but that’s what I felt.
I think you need a hint of twist (like darlene) if you want to attract more people.

  7. I still think it’s a damn travesty when a person cannot voice their opinions without people trying to shut him/her down!
Keep up the good work, man!
And Mrs. HKH, please don’t others ruin our fun!
This one of the few fun things I can do while at work!

  8. Please don’t cancel out the Hello Kitty Hell blog!!! I just found it and it is the most marvelous source for all things Hello Kitty!!!! I’m seen sooooo many fabulous Hello Kitty things on this website that I might not have ever known about!!! Your ranting is actually justified and a good way to vent (sometimes too much of a good thing is too much). Also I would not deem it as degrading – it’s very humorous and brings a smile to this Hello Kitty lover – so keep the blog, please!!!!

  9. I’m a HK obsessive and loves this blog. I feel so sane for NOT wanting some of the uber ridiculous things on here and.

Please don’t go, I need my HK fix SOMEHOW… And the sanity reminder is good too!

    PLEASE

  10. such a shame that such fanatic whatever their loves are, feel so compelled to interfere in one persons life so much, I infrequently come online to laugh or chuckle at the latest, and most rediculous items available in the hello kitty world. My wife is also a hello kitty collector, though it seems not as avid as your own dear sweet wife, and she too has a good laugh at this sight.

you’ve great humour in your posts and a good laugh after visiting is just what i need from time to time to break me out of any bad mood i may be in

thanks heaps from both myself and my wife

    Glenn.

  12. I’ve just made a similar pledge to give a micro loan for subscribers over at my site Frugalista Japan (//www.frugalistajapan.com) – the site is aimed at foreigners living in Japan but I guess the money saving tips could be applied to anyone. Please come check it out and subscribe to the feed!
